CBD has become a known commodity and those who are clueless on what CBD is, need to exit their cave. The next big thing happening is the boom of the CBD industry. The CBD industry has been under wraps for most of the time, and the social stigma that engulfed it has finally vanished. The industry has come out of its shackles and is in the pursuit of making a mark; we are glad that we are witnesses to this growth!

Of the many things that CBD users are able to experience, one question that they began asking at the beginning of their individual journeys with CBD was whether it got you high? CBD dose does not get you high, and the sole reason for this is the absence of the psychoactive substance called THC, tetrahydrocannabinol. Now, hemp plants are distant cousins of the cannabis family, so the skepticism that links the intoxicating effects of marijuana to hemp is understandable.

This is not to say that hemp plants do not have a trickle of THC in them; they do have but it is just that the percentage is too little to leave a dent. Hemp plants have just about 0.3% of its dry weight in THC, whereas the percentage of THC in marijuana is a staggering 40%!  This is the sole reason why the consumption of marijuana leads to getting high.

Deciphering CBD

CBD is a compound which falls in the same category as that of THC, called cannabinoids. The only difference between the two is the absence of any intoxication properties in CBD. CBD is more inclined towards the therapeutic and holistic wellbeing of the users, whereas THC has less of the therapeutic properties and more of the intoxicating ones.

CBD works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system, and two specific receptors belonging to it called CB1 and CB2. The endocannabinoid system is a sort of roundabout that links various systems right from the cardiovascular to the endocrine and the immune system

The interaction between CBD and the endocannabinoid system helps in stress recovery, homeostasis regulation, neuroprotection, balancing of the immune response and many more. The world of possibilities is opened up by CBD upon interaction with these receptors, and it is how CBD users feel and experience what they do, all without being high!
